Alcohol poses unique problems in early recovery because it's influence is nearly impossible to escape. Distilleries, wineries and breweries are the most powerful, recreational drug dealers in the world, and their marketing reaches nearly every corner of the world. Their industry has no qualms planting triggers EVERYWHERE. Relapsing people make up a measurable percentage of their market. Illegal drugs aren't available at grocery stores, convenience stores, gas stations, licensed liquor stores, bars, restaurants and movie theaters. Meth and crack aren't glamorized by society, they're demonized. Those struggling with addiction face unhelpful stigmas, but alcohol is legal, so there's an inherent, societal perception that it's more safe, further stigmatizing people who get addicted. The big lie suggests that alcohol is not like those dirty street drugs or dangerous prescription drugs. I don’t consider myself a bit different than a person who became addicted to heroin, but society sure does, and that's unhelpful.
