As an alternative school graduate, I've often wondered about class reunions. I was one of those students who moved often (7 different districts), so there wouldn't be very many people who would remember me, and my graduating class only had 7 students.
Of the 4 alternative schools I attended in Grand Rapids, Michigan, 2 were for indigenous students, and were located in the inner city, and 2 were just alternative schools in a public school district in the suburbs. Vastly different experiences with much worse outcomes for my fellow first nation's students, but nothing as hopeless as your experience.
Thanks for sharing John. As a product of the alternative education system, I'm always drawn to your perspective. I absolutely appreciate your writing too!
