I appreciate you taking the time to read and comment Stephanie. I've read articles here (On Medium) from women that expose predatory behavior from male sponsors, so your issues with trust aren't unwarranted. I wouldn't question a person that has been helped by AA, but it wasn't for me and still isn't. In fact, I just finished reading a book called "The Sober Truth" written by Lance and Zachary Dodes, that's pretty eye-opening. It addresses the bad science behind 12-step programs and the rehab industry. (Sub-title of the book) I didn't need to read the book to know that it's entirely possible to stop drinking without AA, but most people have been convinced otherwise. I was dismissed from therapy by my college-educated therapist for my unwillingness to accept 12-step because she bought into the myth. Have you ever watched a movie or TV program about a person overcoming alcohol addiction without meetings? They've dominated recovery with a success rate of 5% to 10%. That's mind-blowing!
Thanks again! πββ
