I couldn’t agree more. The drinking public wouldn’t stop consuming if advertising stopped, but simply supplying the product isn’t nearly enough. Growth and profits dictate the need to “encourage” and “glorify” the product to secure more customers. Until public saftey becomes more important than profits, this is just another “Thoughts and prayers” issue I’m afraid. I would love to see a study that showed the statistics on what percentage of profits in the alcoholic beverage industry are sustained by people that abuse it, versus those who do not. 😛 Sales went down substantially after I quit drinking, so the industry needs to replace my sales with about 10 “normal” drinkers.
