I initially subscribed to Medium as a reader, but was inspired to write after finding a huge resource of stories on addiction and recovery. Using a pseudonym shields me from the ridiculous stigma that's attached to addiction. (Employer discrimination is a valid concern). I was possessed to come out and reveal my name in one article, but quickly edited out that information after being reminded that a simple Google search could screw me. Some people are privileged enough to have zero threat to their survivability when using their real name, but I'm not there yet.
