I joined Facebook in 2009 and deactivated my profile in 2020, after at least two years of thinking about it. I lived alone in Chicagoland, without any friends or family and was using it as a substitute, as well as using it for self-validation. I joined Medium to stay connected to writers I followed on Facebook and discovered a gold mine. I really missed the interaction at first, but I found a tribe of recovery writers here, as well as people I love to follow because they're such talented writers. In my experience, social media wasn't worth the downside, after factoring in their profits from circulated disinformation and how I was stroking my own ego.
Great read Lisa, thanks for sharing! 😊
(I tried deleting my profile a couple of years ago, and Facebook revoked my rights to control my own profile, so I just deleted the app. Their policy is freakish)
