I was born in 1963, so I'm a boomer, but it wasn't until recently that it dawned on me how many younger people feel uncomfortable around me. Not all younger people, but unsettling numbers of them. I work in an office with people that are half my age, and it surprises me how many act guarded, fearful, dismissive, or even hostile towards me. One writer here that I followed and truly admired published an article about her rage towards boomers, and when one reader responded by explaining that we're not all like the boomers she described, she doubled down and accused the reader of refusing to acknowledge their role in fucking up her world. I quit following that writer, but I'm now painfully aware that a lot of younger people discriminate against and resent us. I'm accustomed to getting judged by my appearance, because I'm a big man with long hair, but ageism isn't something I expected. I'm guess I'm lucky to have a number of younger people that completely accept my crustiness! I grew up admiring and befriending older people. Sometimes friendships I established with my friend's parents grew stronger than the friendship that started with their kid. Oh what a world!! "Get off my lawn!!!!!!"
