I was quite moved after watching Gandhi the movie as a teenager, and in my early 20s I read his autobiography, which also inspired me. I've since learned to accept that he was a flawed human. A few writers on this platform have published articles about him having very racist attitudes toward African people throughout his nonviolent movement. It's hard for me to dismiss his historical significance, even with his shortcomings though. Humankind has drifted a vast distance from his vision. Unsustainable consumerism and unregulated capitalism are outright rejections of the path he represented and a path that I still admire.
