In my experience, having productive conversations with people that have been fully indoctrinated into conspiracy theories is like talking to a wall. Once they’re “there” they’re not coming back out again, even if their guaranteed prophicies fail, they just cling to another conspiracy theory. I don’t know one person that ever recovered from the fact the Barack Obama didn’t declare sharia law, confiscate everyone’s guns or march our elderly to death camps, as they were convinced was guaranteed to happen, do you? To them, he’s still a gay, muslim communist and threat to the world! I have listened to their (mostly Qanon, but several others as well) arguments, but there seems to be an impenetrable wall that makes people refuse to acknowledge or process any information outside of the disinformation that fuels their belief. Suggestions on how to engage these folks besides just listening to them, will be greatly appreciated, because I definitely just roll my eyes now and move to the puppy meme.
