The messaging about our southern border in the US is constant. The GOP rhetoric is intentionally misleading, lead by their orange messiah, and though the messaging coming the left is less hateful, it's often presented as problematic. While some media outlets helpfully point out statistics that show immigrants commit less crimes than US citizens and fill necessary jobs that the majority of Americans balk at, the continuous bombardment of lies and negative messaging starts to shape the thinking of a lot of people, (including people of color) that would normally dismiss it. I have personally overheard Mexican Americans complaining about "illegals". It's how citizens are brainwashed and it scares the hell out of me because of the horrific, historical parallels.
The orange messiah knows that continuously repeating a lie is an effective way to convince people and right wing media outlets like Fox News instill fear, rage and hatred about immigrants 24/7.
