šŸ’Ŗ Very nice. Everything you suggested has helped me too. I might add, for those that are able, a fitness regime can help strengthen you all around. Itā€™s by no means a cure, but anything that makes you feel better about yourself is helpful. With my addictive nature, I have grown attached to the gym and it has paid off. Biking, hiking, running and other routines are great places to clear your head and even release some frustration. šŸ˜ And once you reach a certain level of fitness, at least for me, thereā€™s a very cool endorphin thing that happens. A reward for a good, hard effort. Without meditation, journaling and the other tools you mentioned, it wouldnā€™t be nearly enough on its own though.

I didnā€™t sign up with Medium to seek out articles on recovery and addiction. I just noticed some and jumped right in. Now I read almost every article on the topic I can find! At 57, I have been battling alcohol addiction for well over half of my life. Triumphs and humiliating failures sprinkled in everywhere and I find myself replying excessively. The words just flow out of me and before long, I have pages, that I end up editing to a paragraph or two. Is there a way for those of us that arenā€™t professional writers to submit an article? Iā€™m kind of an example of ā€œItā€™s never too late.ā€ or at least, ā€œItā€™s absolutely worth it to NEVER STOP TRYING.ā€ Asking for my anonymous self, not a friend. šŸ˜Š
