What's scary is how that cycle of self-defeating behavior starts to become normal if we don't act and self-correct. When the pounding head, blurred memories and mysterious injuries start to become an acceptable price to pay, the feelings of dread and remorse can often be repressed causing the addiction to grow more powerful and deadly. At that point, one is beyond a morning beer just sounding good, because the beer has become necessary. One must have alcohol soon, to avoid detox.
Stories like this are critically important for people who share similar experiences with their alcohol use. It's vital to recognize the dangers of abuse before the addiction becomes nearly invincible. Most stories about people who reach this stage of addiction are written by their loved ones because the odds of breaking free are so low.
