When I lost a dear friend to Covid in 2020, his family was comforted by this thinking because of their religion. As a person that tilts more on the humanist side of the equation, I was not. My friend was rushed back to work as an essential worker shortly after studies revealed that people of color were dying from Covid in greater numbers. This was also a time when misinformation about masking was being challenged and the seriousness of the illness was being downplayed by our president. (Resulting in the MAGA-infected segment of our society refusing to acknowledge or take precautions to help mitigate spreading it) My friend probably died for reasons that had nothing to do with God deciding it was just a good time for him to be with Jesus.
